ABOUT THE SHOW
The father and daughter artistic duo of Michael and Elena Orwick will be exhibiting their artwork prior to embarking on a journey around the world as part of the “Studio Everywhere” project to teach art to children at orphanages, schools and community centers.
ART Elements has featured Michael Orwick as a top selling landscape painter since opening in 2010. After being introduced to Elena’s artwork the gallery wanted to give the young emerging artist an opportunity to be included in her father’s show.  Michael and Elena look forward to sharing their newest works before they leave for their year long artistic journey.
Michael Orwick (Oil Painter)
Oregon
Growing up in the Oregon Cascades and the Willamette Valley, nature and the rich landscape have had a profound impact on Michael Orwick. He has always been awed by the extraordinary ability of landscapes to tell stories, just as art does. Michael’s career in art started in animation (Will Vinton Studios) and moved quickly into illustration, where he enjoyed bringing the ideas of others to life. Today Michael is creating what he calls “Inspired Expressionism,” painting his own ideas on canvas and inviting you to provide the narrative.  Michael offers hints of the mood through atmosphere and serene colors, suggesting a place and a time of day.  It is what he leaves untold that grabs you though. He shares his enigmatic vision and invites you to imagine your own story.  And, often you can’t help the feeling that you have ‘seen this place,’ as if through a car window or in passing to somewhere else…Michael's paintings grant you the rare chance to go back and explore a special place that fuels the imagination.
There is a reason we are drawn toward beauty, it is the language of God and nature. To me there is nothing more provocative than beauty, it inspires deep reflection and motivates me to create. I mix from a primary color palette, painting wet into wet and with layers, to both reveal and hide what lies behind; in this way I entice you into the painting.  I love it when people share the feeling and stories my paintings evoked. It is my sincere wish that you will want to revisit these beautiful locations and painterly stories again and again.

Elena Orwick (painter)
"She's just 10-years-old but talented beyond her years."  Helen Raptis (host at KATU) paid a visit to the studio of Elena Grace Orwick to see her painting and learn about her plan to bring art to children around the world.

About Elena
Most of my recent art has been about color, but lately, I have been experimenting with the  values, harmony and contrast in my paintings. I have also been noticing how the quality of the paint itself changes the painting too.
I have been exploring how the harmony and contrast are  like a kind of music that leads my brush like a dancer. In my opinion painting in general is like dancing, each new move is a color, every step is a stroke. Sometimes I like to let the music take over. It leads me to another world where it doesn't matter if the painting is perfect, or if it sells at all. All that matters is that I have fun painting, because if you are having fun the painting will be fun. Artists don't want you to just see it, they want you to feel it. So do you feel it too?

Willamette Valley Plein Air is nearly here!!!

ART Elements Heeaer
Meet the artists
Meet the artists and see the work
Artist Reception August 29, 2013

This summer our four featured artists took multiple excursions together throughout the Willamette Valley to produce paintings for ART Elements Gallery. "Painting outdoors is the best way to learn and grow as an artists," says oil painter, Michael Orwick. "The constant change of light, wind and color challenges you to grasp a moment in a ever-changing environment. Our time out and about will make my future work stronger."

"The gang gets together about once a month in the spring and summer time to plein air paint all over the Willamette Valley.  It's always an adventure full of laughs, stories, and shenanigans. Oh! And paintings too!" says Romona as she giggles and winks at her cohorts.

Romona Youngquist
ROMONA YOUNGQUIST
Self taught and painting since the age of four, Romona Youngquist grew up amongst vast landscapes and the thunderous big sky of Oklahoma. The severe contrast between shadow and light carry you right into her paintings of weathered architecture, flowers, fields and country roads. "We are honored to be one of the few galleries carrying Romona," says ART Elements Gallery owner and art consultant Loni Parrish. Though Romona is a painter that rivals the masters, I'm sure few of them were notorious for raising squirrels, puppies and all critters of the Pacific Northwest. All living things are attracted to Romona's quick loving and easy going personality. "We love having her live five miles from the gallery. She's a quick call away for clients that want to meet the artist behind the breathtaking paintings. When they meet her, they are always astounded that such large masterpieces came out of this petite woman."

MICHAEL ORWICK
Michael Orwick started his career as an animator in the Will Vinton claymation studios and quickly moved to illustration. His storytelling, his signature style "Inspired Expressionism," is evident on every canvas he paints. Every viewer is left feeling reminiscent of something familiar and wanting. Michael uses the entire Pacific Northwest as his painting playground spanning from the Oregon coast, Mt. Hood and the vineyards of the Willamette Valley. Michael is a natural teacher and often holds workshops and classes in various mediums. He prefers to teach people out in the plein air, in the elements.

DON BISHOP
Don Bishop, a northern California native, is the quieter soul of this rambunctious bunch of artists. His grandiose quiet landscapes reflect his demeanor. "There is something so peaceful about Don's work. They are very reflective, meditative pieces. There are times in the gallery where his trees blow in the summer breeze, the clouds trail across the canvas and somehow the days troubles melt away," says gallery manager, Lauren Wylie. Don's work and tonal style reflects those of the early California plein air impressionist artists.

BRENDA BOYLAN
Oregon native Brenda Boylan, the newest artist to ART Elements Gallery, is a sprite bubbly artist that paints lush and rich oil pastel paintings. She has earned the distinction of Signature Membership with the Pastel Society of America, the Northwest Pastel Society and has been published in several fine art magazines. For such serious and honorable accolades, she seems to be the trouble-maker/instigator of the group. "She is always laughing and seeing the bright side of every occasion, we see that in her paintings. Her pieces bring you joy, peace and highlight details that one wouldn't normally see. Her layers of color with hints of random highlights of orange and deep blue keep your eyes drawn to the detail and care of each of her pieces," says Lauren.

Romona Youngquist

Each month, ART Elements hosts an artist reception for the featured artist(s).  Enjoy the stories behind the artwork, interact with the artists, and listen to the "gallery talk" from 5-7pm on Thursday July 28th from 5-7 pm.

Dear Michael,
ART Elements Gallery will be exhibiting a solo show for the acclaimed landscape oil painter Romona Youngquist.   Youngquist, a self taught painter, has a technique and style that is comparable to the Hundson River painters of the mid-19th Century art movement.  Her muse is often the pastoral and rural beauty of Oregon's Willamette Valley where you can often find her with her easels and brushes as she plein-air paints a lost barn, farmhouse, or a meandering path.

Mustard Fields  |  20x20 in.    |  $2500
"You can almost walk into her world. Her canvas is a portal to a place so peaceful and serene, you won't be in a hurry to leave."
"Poppy Lane"  |  20x20 in  | $2500
Romona resides with her husband, two daughters and her beloved dogs in the lush Red Hills of Dundee, Oregon, overlooking flourishing vineyards and breathtaking landscapes. Much of her inspiration comes from her surroundings-be it a weathered farmhouse, an ancient alder standing alone in resplendent autumn hues, or a muted meadow that pulls one's thoughts to a conscious digression.

Self taught with nature as her classroom and the great masters her teachers, she knew at age four that painting would be her calling. Today you'll find her painting as far away as German, London, and downtown Manhattan. Her works have been published in the premier art magazines including Southwest Art, American Art Collector and Art Talk.
