"It's a Woman's World"
featuring women artists, women in art and other womanly elements
June 4th 5pm - 9pm | RIP CASWELL SCULPTURES GALLERY OF NW ART |
|
Featured Artist: Laurel Barbieri
Laurel grew up in the Olympic National Forest of Washington State. Born the eighth child of thirteen, Laurel and her humble family relied primarily on the land for food and survival. Laurel spent most of her childhood exploring the woods surrounding the family home. Her early recollections are of a natural environment serving as her private sanctuary and playground.
Today, Laurel is an accomplished artist, her “Relief Sculptures” are a unique art method which she alone has created. “Relief Sculpture offers more dimension than a traditional canvas painting,” Laurel explains, “yet it’s not entirely a three-dimensional sculpture either”. Laurel's works of art are heavily textured, filled with movement, rich in colors, with an astounding 50-plus applications of paint. Inspired by the meandering mineral deposits found in rock and coarse irregularities nature provides in cave walls it’s what Laurel calls “natures accidental beauty”. |
Featured Artist: Michael Orwick This month we have chosen award winning oil painter Michael Orwick as our singular male featured artist to exhibit during our "It's a Woman's World" show. Michael's work includes colorfully vivid images of serene settings that evoke feelings of nostalgia and delightful familiarity. For this show, we have chosen a few of his female figurative pieces as well - to show how brilliantly he captures both the special and the mundane moments of every woman's life, whether it be sister time in a vineyard sorting grapes or time spent taking special care in preparing for an evening's festivities.
"There is a reason we are drawn toward beauty, it is the language of God and nature. To me there is nothing more provocative than beauty, it inspires deep reflection and motivates me to create." ~ Michael Orwick |
Special Guest and Wine Tasting: One of Oregon's few women winemakers, Delphine Gladhart, pours her Winters Hill Vineyard wine
"Growing up in France, Delphine fell in love with wine. At 15, when she started working harvests in the picturesque Beaujolais and Burgundy regions, it became inevitable that she would study winemaking at Burgundy's most prestigious academy. What would have been harder to predict is that, after graduating in 1998, she would go on to make wine in another picturesque wine region-Oregon's Dundee Hills. But after college, during an apprenticeship in Oregon wine country, she fell in love again-this time with her future husband, Russell Gladhart of Winters Hill Vineyard. So in 2004, when Winter's Hill had an opening for a winemaker, it was only natural that Delphine would step in. Now she's producing boutique pinot noir and pinot gris that are wowing judges and turning heads. She likes that the wine rules in the U.S. are looser than in France, leaving her free to experiment, though she calls herself a traditionalist, keeping her wines simple and natural, fitting with the Gladharts' dedication to sustainable production." Imbibe Magazine Sept/Oct 2006 FREE WINE TASTING! Glasses of wine for sipping while viewing the art, and bottles to go are available for purchase during our event. Don't forget to try the award winning dessert wine, Golden Nectar!
