Dear Michael,
ART Elements Gallery will be exhibiting a solo show for the acclaimed landscape oil painter Romona Youngquist.   Youngquist, a self taught painter, has a technique and style that is comparable to the Hundson River painters of the mid-19th Century art movement.  Her muse is often the pastoral and rural beauty of Oregon's Willamette Valley where you can often find her with her easels and brushes as she plein-air paints a lost barn, farmhouse, or a meandering path.

Mustard Fields  |  20x20 in.    |  $2500
"You can almost walk into her world. Her canvas is a portal to a place so peaceful and serene, you won't be in a hurry to leave."
"Poppy Lane"  |  20x20 in  | $2500
Romona resides with her husband, two daughters and her beloved dogs in the lush Red Hills of Dundee, Oregon, overlooking flourishing vineyards and breathtaking landscapes. Much of her inspiration comes from her surroundings-be it a weathered farmhouse, an ancient alder standing alone in resplendent autumn hues, or a muted meadow that pulls one's thoughts to a conscious digression.

Self taught with nature as her classroom and the great masters her teachers, she knew at age four that painting would be her calling. Today you'll find her painting as far away as German, London, and downtown Manhattan. Her works have been published in the premier art magazines including Southwest Art, American Art Collector and Art Talk.

Thistle Dew Farm
"Thistle Dew Farm"  |  20x20 in.   |  $2500

We hope to see you at our gallery for Romona's Show!  Thank you for continuing to support Original Oregon Art.

Sincerely,
Loni Austin Parrish

This 3 day+ workshop will be held in the beautiful studio and gardens of artist Lorene Coleman in the Portland area in September, 2011. Designed with beginner and intermediate painters in mind who want to learn what it takes to make knock-out pastel paintings.
Strong drawing skills are needed and photo references will be used for some of your work. Students can expect to work a variety of exercises stressing the unique qualities of pastel in the studio with an optional/casual plein air paint-along (weather permitting) with Brenda, all while having a lot of fun!

Breathtaking views!
What else can you say about this wonderful location. Simply one of the most spectacular places I have ever painted.
Each time I paint, my goal is to capture the particular mood of the moment and to express myself in a bold and colorful way and while capturing the beauty and spontaneity of nature. Putting passion and emotion into a painting is far more important then just making a copy of your subject.
Depending on your level and goals we will try to develop a program for improving your ability as a painter. My goal as an instructor is to give my students the foundation necessary to express themselves.
Some of the things we will cover are:
  • Stroke angle and how it affect depth in thick loose strokes
  • Properly holding a brush to ensure you have limitless possibilities with your strokes
  • Brush speed
  • Time management and capturing the moment
  • Forget formulas and learn to ?SEE?: Learning see nature as paint.
  • Color temperature
  • Harmony
Each day will end with a group critique.Columbia River Gorge
